The County of Greene government provides our community with a variety of services and care. Each department within our government provides something to our community that makes Greene County a better place to live and grow. Have you ever wondered about the programs they provide and how they impact you and those you care about? Each month, we will sit down for a conversation with a representative from one of the county government’s departments to keep our readers informed of the many services available.
The Early Intervention Program provides developmental and educational services to Greene County children younger than three years old who have developmental delays. Any child living in Greene County under the age of 3 is eligible for a free developmental screening and assessment. A qualified Multidisciplinary Evaluation team comes to your home (or through a virtual setting at this time) with your child’s assigned Service Coordinator and completes a full, no cost multidisciplinary evaluation. A qualifying 25% delay in any one area makes your child eligible for services.
Following the development of an Individual Family Service Plan (IFSP), sessions are provided at the convenience of the family in the child’s home or day care setting. Parents are leaders on their team, having the ability to choose their services and the provider that delivers them. The program’s services are available for free to all clients, regardless of income and there is no waiting list.
“Our services are family friendly and occur in their home, around their routines so that practice seems natural,” shares Lauren Chambers, the director of the Early Intervention program. “The Service Coordination staff are well-versed in our county’s resources for helping families make the connections they need to be successful. They really listen to their families and are willing to go the extra mile in making the challenges parents experience a little more manageable. Our staff strives to help parents feel more comfortable taking their children into the community.”
