A total of 140 students from 21 schools showcased their culinary and management expertise at the 11th annual Pennsylvania ProStart Student Invitational hosted by PRLA, the state-wide association that represents Pennsylvania’s hospitality and tourism industries.
The statewide competition was held on February 27 at the Penn Stater Conference Center Hotel and was sponsored by Marriott International, Hershey Foodservice, Penn State School of Hospitality Management, and the United States Coast Guard. The first-place winners in the culinary and management divisions advanced to the National ProStart Student Invitational in Baltimore this month.
Students from the Greene County Career & Technology Center captured the title in the management competition. They bested the prestigious private Milton Hershey School, who finished in second place.
Those competing in the management division must create a restaurant concept, complete with menu items, marketing tactics, and a floor plan.
